MODS 4

The fourth set of modifications started as soon as I got back from the Brooklands airfield day which was organised by Simon Neill (Striker CBR1000 -cheers Simon!). The car had run fine all day, although it was misfiring below 7k - must get the carbs set up properly. However, when I started it on Sunday to return to London it sounded like a tractor. Ho hum - it definitely hadn't sounded like that the evening before. Looking at the engine it seemed that one of the plastic blanking plates which Fisher had fitted over the PAIR valve exits had finally given up the ghost. It had melted a little already but this time it had broken so that the main body of the plate was loose. When I got back to the garage I immediately made up an ali plate to replace it with and with this in place the engine note was back to normal. I made another one just to make the engine look better.

Finally, I started making a template for the extensions to the bonnet bulge which I plan to make. The tops of the carbs are hitting the underneath of the bonnet, just at the side of the bonnet bulge. If they get completely worn away (and they're only plastic) then the carbs won't work as the diagphram will be open to atmosphere, so I'm planning to extend the bulges sideways with some carbon inserts.

More to follow.....
